Discovered in 1460 the islands gained full independence from Portugal in 1975. With a population of around 476,000. The Cape Verdeans have their own unique language, called “Creole”, a mixture of Portuguese and African blend. With close economic ties to the US, EU & World Bank the local govt is very supportive of foreign investment, the local currency Cape Verde Escudo (CVE) has the benefit of being fixed to the Euro.

Sal Island
The island of Sal is situated in the northern group of the archipelago, 30km long & 12km in width. Having a well established international airport, Sal will develop into one of the world’s top tourist resorts.
The town of Santa Maria, south of the island, is the main tourist resort with crystal clear waters & 8kms of beautiful beaches, making Sal an excellent destination for diving, surfing & sun worshippers alike. Restaurants line the beaches, a lovely town square with a variety of shops with local musicians playing Cape Verdean classics make this charming town a popular choice with tourists.
Tourist destinations include Pedra de Lume salt flats & the port town of Palmeria. The best beaches are located on Santa Maria & Ponta Preta, both at the southern most point of the island.
